About Me

My name is Helen Farrar and my dream is to own and run my own business. I think this life is one big opportunity where I can do whatever I put my mind to. I want to see what I am capable of accomplishing. A philosophy I carry with me in everything I pursue.

The story of this little hat company started about one year ago, when I bought a sewing machine off of our local classified ads. I knew I wanted to make hats and played around with the design until I liked what I had created. I sold a few to friends and family but with school, work and skiing keeping me busy, I didn't have time to expand my business endeavor ponderings.

Everything changed when I was pursuing my latest and greatest adventure: Ski Joring. I was so excited, to say the least. Words can not describe how excited I was for this event. I had signed up online, found a team, practiced once and before I knew it it was race day. It was 10PM by the time my division got to go; after all the pros, snowboarders and every other divsion. The once slushy course was now ice, and riders and skiers were no longer going off of the jumps, but I didnt know this.

I took off my rings, put them in my pocket, buckled my boots as tight as they would go and looked up at my rider, Audry atop her palomino horse. She smiled back at me and asked Are you ready? I responded barley containing my voice, below a yell hell yes I am! And sure enough we were off. I held onto the rope and looked ahead. The first jump was bigger then I was expecting and I landed with a thud, still holding on. I heard the announcer yell WOW this horse is really flying, and I thought we really are going fast- a lot faster then we went in practice. I kept holding on, second jump, landed, wow I can do this. The third jump was on a turn and a lot of the other competitors had fallen here. I sent it, really without any time to think of a better plan. I landed out of control and made a horrible mistake: I didn’t let go of the rope.

My body now on the ground, my arms still holding onto the rope, pulled me back off the ground, yanking my right knee. Once I felt my knee being pulled in way it certainly should not be i decided hey now might be a good time to let go of the rope. I did and landed yet again on the ground.

Having torn my ACL, MCL and meniscus that day, really cleared up my schedule. This time is now an opportunity for me to do something that I can learn so much from. Therefor, please have fun looking at the selection of hats I have made myself in the basement of my home.

I want to say thank you to my dad, Kenny for supporting and encouraging my idea. What I have created so far would not have been possible without him. Another thank you to my mom, Judy for buying me a new sewing machine when mine was dying a slow painful death. Also to my roommates Allie, Emma, and Coco for modeling for me with absolutely zero notice. Shout out to Cotopaxi team for always putting a smile on my face and supporting me. Last but not least, thank you Jackson for being my model, being my business minded eye, and my best friend.
